One of our somewhat newer members comes to us from the cold lands of Minnesota.  Don Campbell lived and worked as an orthopedic surgeon at the Mayo Clinic for 24 years before retiring to our sunny valley.  Don says he visited the valley for several years, staying longer each time and knew this was the place for him after retirement.  He has had a long interest in photography.  At age 12 he was beguiled into taking pictures by an older brother who was doing a lot of photography and had a dark room in the basement.  In high school Don worked on taking pictures for the school paper and this continued into his college years. Now Don loves to photograph unusual and humorous subjects.  He is currently using a Cannon 50D.

Besides being a photographer, Don loves to play magician.  As a child he started with a magician set, but unlike the rest of us, he says he “never moved on”.  During his working years he was too busy to do much, but at age 50 he decided to go back to magic.  He is now giving magic shows for clubs, fund raisers, and we hope one day, the Coachella Valley Desert Camera Club.

Don lives in Palm Springs.  He is married with two children.
