Camera club members attending the September meeting were treated to a demonstration on the ‘how-to’s” of putting together a slide show, presented by our member of two years, Gene Lambert.

“Colored slide shows were the big thing from the 1930’s to the ‘50’s,” Lambert said. “In particular, you always kept them handy to show to company when you wanted them to leave,“ he added with a laugh. “Now we prepare them for our own amazement and to share with our grandchildren and perhaps the neighbors.

“Thirty-five mm is becoming instant history as the digital revolution takes over for film. However, we have just scratched the surface.”

Lambert shared many tips on preparing slide shows emphasizing that you begin by choosing a theme, picking music from www.findanymusic.com (or look for ‘royalty free’), put your slides in one folder and the music in a separate folder. He said there are 100’s of programs on the market to make slide shows but he prefers Proshow Gold from the Photodex Corp, which offers a choice of 280 transitions. (For more information on this product go to http://www.proshowgold.com. His lecture was followed by one of his own slide shows.

Lambert’s photographic experience goes back more than 50 years as he recorded his military travels during the Korean War. This Ferdinand, Idaho native has seen a lot of Europe, lived in Oregon for many years, moved to Yucaipa in 1994 and then to Desert Hot Springs three years ago.

He has had some interesting employment experiences throughout his lifetime. His said his first job was parking covered wagons in Oregon. Next he moved upward to five decades of computer work where he dealt with Y2K and those infamous Floridian key punch cards.

For the last 40 years he has been entering slides into competitions but is now concentrating on putting together video shows. He has belonged to six camera clubs, uses a Canon GL2 Digital video camera and a Canon 10D.
