The image must have been taken at first light or shortly after sunrise and this must be readily apparent to the viewer. The result will be judged for spectacular use of early light to create magical effects. See Background below.

Background:

It has been said that photographers should do their laundry between 9am and 3pm. Sunrises and sunsets provide for a magical light. If the skies are not cloudy, there is usually a 10 minute window in the desert when mountains, rocks, trees etc seems to catch fire. Broken clouds also create dramatic effects when lit by the rising sun....even before sunrise when they may be accompanied by silhouetted trees or objects. Even objects inside a house can taken on a special quality when lit by low early morning light. Stretch your imagination to the fullest!
