Ed Oppenheimer is a natural traveler, a way-of-life that began for him as a child. He enjoyed the best of worlds before his teen years. A native New Yorker, he spent most of his winters in El Paso and then in early spring his family returned to live in Manhattan. When he started high school his family moved to Westchester County, which is where his interest in photography began. With his own dark room he was able to develop film from his first camera, a WWII model. His next camera was a Beseler, complete with a Beseler enlarger. For the last two years he has been using a Canon G3 but purchased a Nikon Coolpix 8800 two months ago. Armed with a BA and MA from Colgate and an MBA from NYU, he began his career in marketing and sales for high tech industry, beginning with Litton Business Systems. Next he started his own company called Data Point and then became Director of Marketing and Sales for Northern Telecom. For the last 18 years he has been consulting, providing marketing and sales help for the computer-related industry. It certainly isn’t surprising that travel pictures top his list of favorites. So far this year he has four trips planned, which include New York, Paris, London and various cities in China. He and his wife, Marion, moved to the desert three years ago. They have two children and three grand children. He joined our camera club two years ago after hearing about it from the late Bob Long and has submitted many winning entries for our monthly competitions. “I like to watch what others are doing and learn more about their viewpoints,” he said. “I’m interested in black and white because I like the shadow effects and the gritty quality. Also I like to compete.”
