It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of our long-time member, colleague, and good friend, Allan Pickus. He died suddenly on August 16, 2011 at the Pickus' home near Chicago, IL, where he and Meline always spend their summers.
Allan and Meline have been club members since 2000. Although a very fine photographer - particularly with travel photography that he enjoyed on the Pickus' extensive travels - Allan did not compete in club competition much since the ascent of digital photography. He used a digital camera but was not motivated when it came to post-processing!
However, along with Meline, he came to almost every meeting in the winter months and participated in most outings. The Pickus' have also always been very generous supporters of the club. Allan was always first to the table when it came to calls for funding and urged others to follow in his stead. Many of us enoyed Allan's company and wry humor at the Pickus' home in Palm Desert, where they have kindly hosted most CRITSIG meetings.
Allan, educated and trained as an Architect, was co-owner of Pickus Construction & Equipment Company from 1963 until his retirement in 1996.
Our hearts go out to Meline and their extended family. He will be greatly missed. We look forward to Meline's return to the Desert later this year.
Donations can be made to The Living Desert towards a memorial tree to be planted in Allan's honor.
