A Touch of Color

This month the Special Project is a Touch of Color.  Color doesn’t have to be widespread to be effective.  The degree of impact a small, isolated area of color has, depends to a large extent on the hues surrounding it. Colors look most striking when placed against a muted background hue.

For this project keep a look out for good examples of small isolated areas of commanding color within large images.  Once you’ve found a likely subject, work your way around it checking in the camera viewfinder all the time to see how the effect can best be accentuated.

Be sure to exclude extraneous objects or colors that would lessen the impact.  A zoom lens can also be of great help, using its variable focal length as a cropping device, to refine your composition.
